Puff’s “2 Moons 2” Review

A Risk that Paid Off

2 Moons 2 is a remake in 2019 of the hit 2017 show “2 Moons” – and while it is risky to redo the entire show, 2 Moons 2 managed to pull it off. Like most BL fans, Puff was apprehensive at first. How could someone remake 2 Moons without the original cast? Bas will always be Wayo, and God will always be P’Pha. (See 2 Moons Review) – In 2 Moons 2 – we get Earth Teerapat as Wayo, and Ben Benjamin as Phana (he’s half Thai half British in case you were wondering about his name).

So how did P’Aam pull off directing such a risky show? Well, its quite simple. 2 Moons the original series only used a tiny bit of the source material from the “Moon Courting Moon” book. The story of Wayo and Phana becoming a couple was already well known. This allowed for greater flexibility in the remake. The entirety of 2 Moons is encapsulated in the first four episodes of 2 Moons 2. All of the important parts are included, Wayo’s note, Wayo wearing the glasses and P’Pha realizing it is his Nong, Ming becoming the campus moon, “Ordinary Person” – and its ok that it goes by quickly since most people who are viewers of 2 Moons 2 probably saw 2 Moons. Earth’s rendition of Ordinary Person was extraordinary. We already know that story, it is the events after the Star and Moon contest that really lets this series shine.

While 2 Moons hinted at Ming and Kit as a ship, 2 Moons 2 really brings this story forward and gets a lot of return for it. The Ming/Kit ship is arguably stronger and more interesting than the Phana/Wayo ship. Ming (Joong Archen) and Kit’s (Nine Kornchid) story really begins to take off after the Moon contest. Although we dont have Copter’s beautiful face as Kit in 2 Moons 2, Nine really stands out in the new cast.

Ming and Kit’s arc moves the story forward in a surprising way. It’s (in my opinion) better than Wayo and Phana’s story and it really gets you to love the characters and to look forward to the next season. We already knew Wayo and Phana would get together, the rest of their story is dealing wtih the intrusion of Park and Pring into their relationship. Ming and Kit’s ship, however, really gives you that lead up to falling in love that falls short with the main ship. You also get one of those really touching moments when Ming accidentally ends up at Kit’s house and they have to confront Kit’s brother.

A Surprise Ship

We also get a Beam/Forth ship. In 2 Moons, Forth was the obstacle for Wayo and Phana to get together. While there was some of that in the beginning, we get to move beyond the original series and into ForthBeam territory. And, well, it starts off with a bang! Who knew Beam would bottom.

Forth (Pavel Naret) and Beam’s (Dome Woranart) story is a little different than the other two ships For those keeping track, current Faculty of Science Moon, Wayo, is with Campus Moon from the previous year, Phana, who was the Moon from the Faculty of Medicine. Ming, the Faculty of Engineering Moon is the current campus moon. Forth is the previous year’s Moon from the faculty of Engineering. Forth, the 4th moon pursues Beam after a drunken hookup one night. While Ming and Kit give us family drama, Forth and Beam give us a different insight into coming out. Forth is out and gay. He starts off the show going for Wayo, and is pretty open about it. When he switches to Beam, no one bats an eye, and his engineering buddies really play great wing men. He’s also the head hazer for the SOTUS system in engineering. Beam has the biggest struggle with his sexuality in the show. At one point he feels disgusted with himself.

One theme we get from Mingkit and ForthBeam is something we see a theme we see in other shoes. Ming and Forth are relentless in their pursuit, and when they back off, Kit and Beam notice and react. Type (TopTap’s character) does the same in “2gether the series” when Man backs off. It seems absence does makes the heart grow fonder.

Best scene: Ming and Kit – hands down, the best scene was Ming asking Kit if he remembered what they spoke about on the beach. I just wanted to scream HE’S YOUR MOON!!!!!!! (I actually did scream that).

Funniest Scene: The Angel Gang going after the Cute Boy Page Editor! I loved when twin 1 screams at the end of it and it comes out butch, then he corrects himself because it was too butch! It reminded me of Fluke turning up the butch when kicking the soccer ball.

Honorable Mention: Cake! Wow Sammy comes out of nowhere and muscles herself into the gay crowd and becomes a member of the Angel Gang.

2 Moons 3 coming soon! And Forth got even hotter! Cant Wait!
