Puff’s Review: 8/10

“Why R U?” is one of the few shows I watched every weekend as soon as it was released for international fans. Unfortunately, due to Covid-19, the show suffered because they weren’t allowed to wrap up a lot of the filming, so it is really unfair to grade the show higher, in my opinion, even though this is the show that brought Cake, Bun and Puff together to chat weekly as each episode was released.

Why R U? has two main ships. The first character we meet is Zon played by Tommy Sittichok who is shipped with Saifah played by Jimmy Karn. We also have Tutor played by Saint Suppapong (Saint Sup) shipped with Fighter played by Zee Pruk. This is the first series where Saint is able to shed his Pete role from Love By Chance and start anew. As for the other three main actors, all are from DomundiTV and new each other before filming.

If you follow DomundiTV, you will also recognize a few of the supporting actors in the series. The characters Dew, Champ, and Blue are all part of DomundiTV as well.

The show starts pretty big, there are a lot of characters, and a lot of sub plots. They seemed to be going really well until half way through the show. Then all the side stories drop off. The last four episodes only feature Fighter/Tutor and Saifah/Zon. There is one scene with Blue/Dew, but the whole premise of the show is completely thrown out of the window. Even still, this show is worth the watch.

The way the show starts off really cute. Zol, Zon’s sister is a prolific Y author. She writes about people she knows, and even writes fanfic about Zon. Zon sees her writings one day, and then starts seeing it happening in real life. Tee/Fuse and Tharn/Type show up at school, and Zon begins to think his sister’s fanfic is actually happening in real life. The problem? His ship is with his mortal enemy, Saifah. Everyone his sister writes about starts to fall for the ships that are in the book. Zon, though, doesnt realize he is gay.

So as the story progresses, and the two main ships start to develop, the Director, I guess, just didn’t finish shooting? Everything from the first few episodes just stops. The story then shifts to just Fighter/Tutor and Saifah/Zon. So why is it still ranked at an 8/10 even though the story disappeared? Well, for one, the Fighter/Tutor scenes are hot and heavy. And the Saifah/Zon scenes are soft and sweet. I personally prefer Saifah/Zon, but damn, the kiss on the adam’s apple was really hot!

For all the faults in the story being thrown out the window, the two ships still carry this show, and you still get classic BL tropes (Jewelry exchange, trip to the beach, enemy to lovers, fever and a sponge bath). Why R U? is also not afraid to have a steamy sex scene. I really wish the show would have been able to fulfill all the story lines (Blue/Dew!) – and what ever happened to the couple that was meowing!

This show might get you hooked on BLs if you are new to the scene 😉
