2gether the Series –

Based on a novel by Jittirain (also the author of Theory of Love) started on its way to probably getting a much higher score.

The story is about Tine and Sarawat who start off as fake boyfriends (similar to Love Sick the Series, but different enough) so that Tine can escape from Green, another freshman who is following him around desperately trying to get his attention. The story uses the real Thai band Scrubb as a plot tool, and their music to help move the story along to express their feelings. It’s almost like Mama Mia and the Jagged Little Pill broadway show based off the music of Abba and Alanis Morissette.

Of course, you get a dose of Gunsmile, Toptap, and Mike, Drake, Frank, and one of the twins, JJ Chayakorn, and Khaotung as familiar faces to the mains, Bright Vachirawit and Win Tawan. If you’ve seen “Cause You’re My Boy” the Drake/Frank ship makes sense, more below.

Within 3 episodes, if you haven’t become one of Sarawat’s wives you are dead inside. Bright is the first actor that Bun, Cupcake, and I all fell in love with. In the whole series, every time Bright was on screen, you just shiver, oh my heart! (except those last few minutes in THAT episode).

Overall, the show does a great job of showing the evolution of Tine’s feelings. The book, and the show are mostly through Tine’s point of view. It isn’t until the end when you really get to see Sarawat’s side of things. But when you do, you just melt, and fall in love all over again.

The side ship: Man and Type – This is the first time I noticed Toptap really, and since then he’s one of my favorites. Check out his dance moves! But guess what? Man (played by Mike) can also dance! I can’t wait till they do a tiktok 2gether. But back to the story – There is one very uncomfortable scene in an episode where I had so much anxiety watching Man at dinner. It was really an excellent scene. The whole arc between Type and Man was really well done. This is an A level side ship that deserves to be acknowledged.

The problems with the show, in my opinion are quite simple:
First, the directors departure from the template of the novel created unnecessary drama in the series. There are two main changes one is a spoiler, and the other is the addition of Sarawat’s brother, played by Frank Thanatsaran. P’Mil (played by Drake) and Phukong (played by Frank) are a ship from “Cause You’re My Boy.” All the drama between P’Mil and Sarawat/Tine are executed well in the book, adding Frank (as much as I enjoy Drank/Frank) really just made it clunky at the end, and also a little bit awkward.

Second, the producers/studio. I am not sure when was the last time you high-fived your faen after a fight. There’s almost no intimacy. Sarawat sleeps naked the first time Tine comes over and walks in on him. But sleeps covered head to toe when they sleep over together? Sarawat kisses Tine when they are faking it, and can’t even get a little nookie? There is a serious lack of intimacy as the show goes on at a time when the characters are actually falling in love. It’s really like watching two straight college roommates hanging out.

Now, I get that Bright and Win are straight, and this obviously isn’t the level of skinship as a Tharntype, but even on soft couples in other series have a much higher level of intensity simply with a kiss (Jimmy/Tommy in “Why RU” after the concert or Ohm/Singto in “He’s Coming to Me”). The High Five was just such a let down.

Either way, Bright is currently the undisputed king of Instagram from the Thai BL boys. He is perfectly cast as Sarawat. Tine really got better and better as the show went on.

This could have been a star, but it did fizzle a little on its way out. Here’s Bright’s Song. Just stare at him.
